Introduction to Modern Quality
New to Quality, and wanting to quickly build your understanding? Or been working in Quality for a while, but feel you need to strengthen your understanding of what it’s really all about?
There’s a lot more to Quality than ISO 9001 and certification. And the more you understand modern Quality, the greater will be your capability and success in actually applying Quality in your unique role and workplace.
This is a compact course intended for attendees who wish to acquire an understanding of Quality; its evolution over the last 100 years, the principles that define a successful Quality approach, the Quality tools and applications that are available, and how to select and apply the ones that are relevant to your industry.
Module 1 - Background, capability and maturity models. A background to the foundations of modern Quality; the work of the gurus, and understanding your organisation’s maturity and capability in Quality.
Module 2 – Learn the Western and Japanese approaches. Here you’ll gain an understanding of the different paths of Western and Japanese approaches, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Module 3 - Quality Principles 1: Customers and Leadership. Here we’ll explore your organisation’s customers (internal & external, needs and expectations) and the way different leadership styles affect Quality outcomes.
Module 4 - Quality Principles 2: People and Process. How to identify your processes and align the relationship between people and traditional process thinking. Includes case studies to bring the subject to life.
Module 5 - Quality Principles 3: Evidence-based decisions and relationships. Delving into managing by facts and trends in an era of too much information, plus looking at the varying relationships that an organisation needs to manage.
Module 6 - Quality Principles 4: Improvement. A full session exploring process and system improvement, with worked examples. Learn how to determine the role of customer feedback, suggestions and innovation in improvement.
Module 7 - Modern approaches and methodologies. An overview of the major current methodologies, you’ll understand the purpose of each, and the suitability for your organisation’s Quality maturity, context and quality strategy.
Module 8 – Bringing it all together, you’ll learn how to develop options and plans for managing your own Quality program.
Instructor: Russell Veitch
Russell Veitch has been practising Quality and applying ISO 9001 for 40 years. He has a well-earned reputation for his thoughtful and practical approach to management systems, and ability to explain Quality in a way that makes sense. He’s worked with organisations large and small, public and private, manufacturing and service.
