AOQ Inc
wishes to advise its members of the recent decision made by IP
Australia in the Trade Mark Registration. IP Australia have
advised AOQ Inc that we have been successful in defending the
registration of the AOQ logo. We have received further advice
that we were successful in defending our opposition to the
Queensland application to register their logo as a Trade Mark.

Registration of AOQ Inc logo with IP
Australia
It is not common knowledge that Australian Organisation for
Quality (Queensland) Incorporated has attempted to register a
derivative of the better known and recognised Australian
Organisation for Quality Incorporated logo. Proceeding were
filed with IP Australia at the end of last year shortly
following Australian Organisation for Quality (Queensland)
Incorporated withdrawal of membership from the national body.
Currently we find ourselves in a situation where today
18/7/2008, AOQ Inc has filed evidence in opposition to the
registration proceedings by Australian Organisation for Quality
(Queensland) Incorporated and evidence supporting the
application to register our own logo. I have also today written
to members outlining this matter, so shortly you will be
receiving this letter from your state organisations.
Be on your guard -
be sure you know what you are buying
A number of members of AOQ Inc and my personal colleagues have
raised with me in the past and continue to raise concerns regarding the confusion that has
occurred due to the way in which the Queensland organisation is
promoting themselves in very similar or sometimes with an identical
likeness in name as the National Organisation, AOQ Inc.
After
viewing several examples that have been brought to my attention,
I agree strongly that they are passing off in a way that is
likely to cause confusion. Should you have any complaints that
you wish to raise with me regarding this matter, please contact
me direct at president_at_aoq.net.au or refer the matter to the
ACCC. Australia has very clear
laws regarding passing off and this practice is not taken
lightly by the regulators and authorities, especially where
there is confusion caused or likely to be caused in the
community.
AOQ Inc is looking out towards 2013, AOQ Inc is focused firmly on the
future to provide a trusted and vital role internationally and
in Australia for quality and business professionals . Critical
to the success of our association will be our ability to
confront the realities of the external world, acknowledge its
uncertainties and create an organisation to deal with them.
We seek to consolidate our role as Australia’s peak member
organisation, recognised by governments, business and the
community as a rigorous, responsive and energetic leader in the
facilitation of standardization solutions. The characteristics
of success for AOQ Inc will include vibrant external
relationships complemented by secure internal operating
structures.
We aim to develop effective relationships with our stakeholders
both domestically and
internationally whilst creating products that anticipate and
meet the demands of the market.
This focus will be supported by broader engagement opportunities
for interested parties,
improved time-effective committee activity, operational
efficiency and secure financial
management.
AOQ Inc Strategic Planning: A strategic Planning
Meeting was held Adelaide for the National
Council on the 23 October 2008. It is expected that the strategic
pathway will be developed for the coming 5 years during this
meeting in line with the current business plan. Members input is
welcome.
