Quality Awards and Award Winners

Personal Awards
Each year AOQ presents a number of Personal National Awards to members, usually at the Qualcon conference dinner.  The three awards are:

JM Juran Award
To recognise persons who have contributed in an outstanding way to the application of effective quality management in Australia.

Joseph M Juran was deeply involved in management and particularly the management of quality.

The purpose of this award is to recognise persons who have contributed in an outstanding way to the application of effective quality management in Australia.

Joseph M Juran was deeply involved in management and particularly the management of quality, before a lot of us knew what quality was. He became closely involved with the Australian Organisation for Quality back in AOQs formative years when it was known as the Australian Organisation for Quality Control in the late 1960’s. Dr Juran made several visits to Australia, running successful seminars under the banner of AOQC. Through this and other means he made an outstanding contribution to the development of AOQC and the stimulation of many Australian organisations to come to grips with what Quality really means and how to achieve it.

You can see, therefore, that the application of Joseph Juran’s name to this award provides a yardstick against which can be measured truly outstanding efforts in quality management. On the one hand, those who achieve this award deserve it. On the other hand, they are honoured by being associated in this way with the name Juran. Click for rules.  See nomination form below.

Kevin Foley Award
To recognise persons who have made a notable contribution to Australian quality practice through publication of a body of work (a minimum of ten original items) on quality or related topics. This may include and is not limited to books, research articles, web based material and training materials.
Click for rules. See nomination form below.

Shilkin Award
Joe Shilkin was one of the pioneers of the Australian Organisation for Quality in Victoria.

Joe Shilkin was one of the pioneers of the Australian Organisation for Quality in Victoria. He wrote and lectured about quality.

It is therefore quite appropriate that this award is named after Joe, as its two-fold purpose is:

To recognise persons who have made a notable contribution to Australian quality practice through publication of an original paper on quality or related topics.
and
To encourage AOQ member's careers in quality, to develop their written communications skills and to disseminate their knowledge of quality technology for the benefit of others.
Click for rules. See nomination form below.

All award nominees are evaluated by a committee consisting of representatives from the AOQ and business or research establishment as relevant.
