AOQ National Membership and member bodies

Following conversations with a number of quality and business improvement professionals over the past 4 weeks, it is apparent that it is not common knowledge that Australian Organisation for Quality (Queensland) Incorporated has withdrawn its membership from the national federation of AOQ Inc. Ihis action has effectively removed reciprocal members rights with AOQs in each of the states.
As the President of AOQ Inc, I wish to point out that the members of the Queensland body, who do not have a dual membership with AOQ Inc, only have members rights with any affiliate of Queensland body. AOQ Inc wishes to point out to current and prospective members of the Queensland organisation that there is an option available to solve this problem.
Should any current or prospective member of the Queensland organisation wish to enquire how they can become a member of a truly national organisation for quality professionals, contact

Registration of AOQ Inc logo with IP Australia

It is not common knowledge that Australian Organisation for Quality (Queensland) Incorporated has attempted to register a derivative of the better known and recognised Australian Organisation for Quality Incorporated logo. Proceeding were filed with IP Australia at the end of last year shortly following Australian Organisation for Quality (Queensland) Incorporated withdrawal of membership from the national body. Currently we find ourselves in a situation where today 18/7/2008, AOQ Inc has filed evidence in opposition to the registration proceedings by Australian Organisation for Quality (Queensland) Incorporated and evidence supporting the application to register our own logo. I have also today written to members outlining this matter, so shortly you will be receiving this letter from your state organisations.

Be on your guard - What shouldn't be buyer beware

Members of AOQ Inc and my personal colleagues have raised with me concerns regarding the confusion that has occurred due to the way in which the Queensland organisation is promoting themselves very similar or sometimes with an identical likeness in name as the National Organisation, AOQ Inc. After viewing several examples that have been brought to my attention, I agree strongly that they are passing off in a way that has the possibility to cause confusion. Should you have any complaints that you wish to raise with me regarding this matter, please contact me direct at president_at_aoq.net.au. Australia has very clear laws regarding passing off and this practice is not taken lightly by the regulators and authorities, especially where there is confusion caused or likely to be caused in the community.

AOQ Inc
will accept applications for membership from Australian and International applicants where AOQ Inc does not have an affiliated and financial member office. This will be done through application to the President of AOQ Inc requesting a membership form.

In late 2007, the former member of AOQ Inc being registered as Australian Organisation for Quality (Queensland) Incorporated withdrew its membership (pdf) from the confederation of associations.
The President of AOQ Inc wishes to point out to current and prospective members of the Queensland organisation that the Queensland membership is not recognised by the federation of associations and will not receive benefits transferred between other AOQ associations or through its agreements with external counterparts.
Should any current or prospective member of the Queensland organisation wish to enquire how they can become a member of a truly national organisation for quality professionals, contact
